conjunctions |
damit |
dass, auf dass |
um ... zu |
damit
stating a point of view, an intention, a purpose | optional Korrelat: darum, dafür, dazu, deshalb, deswegen, zu dem Zweck, in der Absicht |
Examples | ||
dass, auf dass
stating a point of view, an intention, a purpose | optional Korrelat: darum, dafür, dazu, deshalb, deswegen, zu dem Zweck, in der Absicht |
Examples | ||
Note: A clause introduced by the conjunction dass can less clearly be identified as a final clause than one introduced by the conjunction damit. For this reason, a Korrelat should be included in the main clause.
um ... zu
stating a point of view, an intention, a purpose | optional Korrelat: darum, dafür, dazu, deshalb, deswegen, zu dem Zweck, in der Absicht |
Examples | ||
Note: A final clause that is introduced with um ... zu is an infinitive clause. A basic condition for the formation of a final infinitive clause is that the subject of the main and the subordinate clause are identical.
Examples | |
This rule does not apply only when the indefinite pronoun man is the subject of the infinitive clause.
