Special features (prepositions and cases)
KA34
Two or more prepositions can precede a noun or a pronoun.
When this happens, the case of the noun or the pronoun is determined by the preposition that is closest to them.
Examples | |
mit oder ohne Kinder | ohne + accusative |
ohne oder mit Kindern | mit + dative |
This is also the case when a preposition is combined with another preposition.
Examples | |
bis zur nächsten Haltestelle | zu + dative |
außerhalb von der Stadt | von + dative |
In prepositional phrases that are connected with coordinating conjunctions, the preposition must be mentioned twice.
Examples |
weder für mich noch für dich |
entweder bei mir oder bei meinen Freunden |
