Meaning : The pronoun jemand refers to a non-specific person that we cannot or do not want to define any further. The pronoun niemand is the negation of jemand and means nobody.

Function : Both are used only as pronouns in the place of a noun. They are also only used in the singular number and have no gender.

The pronoun jemand and niemand are inflected as follows. In the dative and the accusative jemand and niemand can either be inflected or not.

Notes :

1. To emphasize the indefiniteness, jemand can be combined with "irgend-" (irgendjemand).

2. If the pronoun is followed by the word anders or by a nominalized adjective, then the pronouns are usually not inflected.

Wieder einmal jemand Neuer.

The nominalized adjective is inflected in all cases of the singular number of the neuter gender.

Examples

Jemand Neues ist eingestellt worden.

Sie sind mit jemand Neues gekommen.

The nominalized adjective can also have masculine types in the singular number. In this case, it is inflected according to the rules of the third declension of adjectives.
