The pronominal adverbs

The pronominal adverbs substitute a preposition and a personal, demonstrative, interrogative or relative pronoun.

They are the combination of the adverbs da and wo with certain prepositions and are invariable.

Examples

damit, dafür, dabei, darüber, danach, darum usw.

womit, wofür, wobei, worüber, wonach, worum usw.

The pronominal adverbs refer to inanimate things. When referring to animate things, we use prepositions with personal, demonstrative or interrogative pronouns.

Examples
Wir sprechen über Politik.	Wir sprechen darüber.	inanimate things = prepositional adverb

Wir sprechen über Monika.	Wir sprechen über sie.	animate things = preposition + pronoun
