The Postfield (Nachfeld)

Sentences belonging to all three word order types have a Postfield (Nachfeld).

Quite often, clauses beginning with the words wie and als (which express comparison) occupy the Postfield (Nachfeld):

Often, long prepositional phrases also occupy the Postfield (Nachfeld).

For reasons of emphasis, shorter prepositional phrases can also stand in the Postfield (Nachfeld).

	subject

	accusative object, dative object, genitive object

	predicative expression

	adverbials (exception: prepositional phrases)

	pronominal adverbs

	noun phrases in an empty verb structure
