The indefinite pronoun beide

Meaning : The pronoun beide refers to two familiar persons or things. On one hand, when stressed, it may indicate that something refers not only to one of the two things but also to the other. In this case, the contrast to eins is emphasized. The pronoun is used without an article.
On the other hand, when unstressed, it indicates that something refers to both things or persons. In this case, the contrast to eins is not emphasized. The pronoun is usually used with an article.
Function : It is used either as a pronoun in the place of a noun or as an article. In the singular number, only neuter gender types exist and it is only used as a pronoun.
