Meaning
Consecutive clauses express the result or the consequence of the action described by the verb of the superordinate clause.
Form and Function
Consecutive clauses are subordinate adverbial clauses that are introduced by a conjunction and contain a finite or a non-finite (infinitive) verb form.

Note: The result derives from a special reason that is expressed in the main clause with an adjective, an adverb or a noun.
ohne dass / ohne ... zu

Note: A consecutive clause that is introduced with ohne ... zu is an infinitive clause. A basic condition for the formation of a consecutive infinitive clause is that the subject of the main and the subordinate clause are identical.

Note: This is a consecutive clause of the unreal. The verb of the subordinate clause is in the Konjunktiv II and the verb of the main clause in the indicative mood.

This rule does not apply only when the indefinite pronoun man is the subject of the infinitive clause.
