Adverbs are categorized in various groups according to their meaning.

adverbs of time | present, past, future, moment, repetition, duration |
adverbs of reason | purpose, cause, condition, concession, result |
adverbs of manner | manner, degree/measure, expansion, reduction, emphasis, evaluation |
adverbs of place | location, direction |
According to their function, adverbs are distinguished in three additional categories: interrogative adverbs, conjunctive adverbs and prepositional adverbs. The last two categories will be examined in the Pronouns section.
